New for 2021: Mathews V3 27 & 31 Bows

Bowhunter Editor Curt Wells had an exciting visit with Mark Hayes, design engineer for Mathews, as the pair looked at the new V3 27 and V3 31 bows.

According to Hayes, the new flagship offerings from the Sparta, Wis. bowhunting industry innovator are the two V3 models, one in a 31” axle to axle package and the other in a shorter 27” axle to axle package.

Despite the size differences, both of the bows — which offer a variety of finish options including First Lite’s new Specter pattern — are built on the same technology and offer a smooth, stable, accurate shooting experience no matter what a bowhunter’s needs are in the field for whitetails, elk, mule deer, antelope, and more.

Hayes said that for archers looking for a longer, more stable, more rigid riser design, the V3 31 has a 6” brace height, weighs only 4.5 pounds, has 80 or 85% let-off, offers draw length options from 26 to 30.5”, shoot arrows at up to 342 fps, and has an MSRP of $1,199.

Offering an equally smooth, stable, and accurate shooting experience in a compact model perfect for close quarter treestands, ground blinds, or a tight spot in the quaking aspens each fall, the V3 27 also has a 6” brace height, weighs only 4.29 pounds, has 80 or 85% let-off, shoots arrows at speeds of up to 342 fps, and checks in with an MSRP of $1,199.

Both new flagship models from Mathews come with the company’s Centerguard Cable Containment system, a further development of the Roller Guard technology. According to Hayes, the new Centerguard system puts cables right at the center of bow, which ensures that the cam is perfectly timed right out of the box.

The two bows also contain a smaller, updated version of Mathews' harmonic dampening technology, developed more than 20-years ago. The new Nano 740 is built on the original technology, but has a smaller profile, new weight, and a proprietary material to deliver quiet, smooth shots that are as effective as ever.

If that’s not enough, Mathews is also bringing two other new bows to market in 2021, the new Prima model for women and the new Atlas, another long riser, compact kind of bow that will thrill many archers who love seeing what’s new each year from Matt McPherson and his team of engineers and product developers each year.
