Bow Review: Hoyt Alpha AX-2 32

Engineered to be smooth, and deadly!

Bow Review: Hoyt Alpha AX-2 32
Hoyt’s 2025 Alpha AX-2 32 features the highly customizable HBX Gen 4 cam system that offers the ability to fine-tune your draw length to the quarter inch, select among three letoff settings and choose between two different back wall options.

Hoyt continues its never-ending push for excellence in all aspects of bow manufacturing, with the goal of creating the ultimate bowhunting and target rigs. Each year, Hoyt finds ways to improve and produce a bow lineup that can be found atop many podiums and in countless hunting memories around the globe.

One of Hoyt’s premier hunting bows for 2025 is the Alpha AX-2 32, a bow featuring a more forgiving string angle and excellent balance through its machined aluminum Tec-Lite Riser and In-Line accessory-mounting system. The bow’s VitalPoint grip fights torque, while the HBX Gen 4 cams offer draw-length customization down to the quarter-inch, along with three letoff options and a choice between a hard and extra-hard back wall. Parallel split limbs, Hole Shot V2 string silencers, a string stop and Short Stop stabilizer battle shock, vibration and noise, while the Roller Guard reduces friction and creates space for passing vanes.

Hoyt Tec

The Alpha AX-2 32 is a Hoyt. So, of course it has a Tec Riser and, in this case, it is the Tec Lite version with many cutouts, bridges, tunnels and channels that significantly reduce mass weight while maintaining, and even increasing, strength and stiffness. Balance is prioritized through the use of In-Line accessory-mounting options. An In-Line sight mount using a Picatinny rail machined into the riser’s front face centers the sight’s mass close to the bow’s centerline for improved balance and reduced torque, not to mentioned enhanced attachment security. Machined into the back of the riser, just above the shelf, an Integrate-compatible dovetail anchors and centers QAD’s Integrate arrow rests. Traditional sight- and rest-mounting holes are also included. Meanwhile, Hoyt’s In-line Short Stop 2.25-inch Stabilizer is mounted low on the riser to drive the center of gravity lower while using the riser’s reflex geometry to position the stabilizer further forward, obtaining the reach and effectiveness of 6-inch stabilizers placed in the traditional location.

Hoyt’s VitalPoint Grip, made with soft, Versaflex material, is designed to focus hand pressure near the middle of the grip rather than at the heel to reduce negative palm pressure and in turn lessen hand torque and increase shooter performance. The low-profile Roller Guard cable- management system features machined aluminum construction, rollers and sealed inner-race bearings for smooth operation and increased efficiency.

Power Source

Hoyt’s 2025 Alpha AX-2 demonstrates a consistent draw cycle, transitioning to a solid back wall that lets you relax at full draw. The bow also holds steady on target while aiming.

Hoyt introduces the Gen 4 version of the popular HBX Cam series for 2025. The HBX series is known for high performance and smooth draw cycles and, as you would expect, the Gen 4 falls right in line. Five modules cover the entire 26-31-inch draw-length range and each offers letoff options of 75, 80 and 85 percent. Hoyt enhances customization with quarter-inch draw-length increments. Additionally, archers can choose the feel of the back wall between hard or extra hard by simply swapping top and bottom cam module feet. Hoyt’s WireWRX strings and cables are pre-stretched and served under high tension to eliminate peep rotation.

Hoyt limbs have a stellar reputation for lasting durability. They undergo a brutal battery of tests and must achieve the highest outcomes to earn a place on a Hoyt bow. A lamination process produces a full contour, Uniform Stress Distribution limb design without cutting through stress fibers, thereby eliminating a primary cause of limb failure. Further, Hoyt’s patented Split Limb Technology utilizes the .875-inch width of the limbs and a wide stance to create lateral and torsional stability, while also eliminating v-grooves and limb-bolt slots where fractures tend to occur in solid limb models. The 10.25-inch AXL limbs are available in peak draw weights of 50, 60, 65, 70, 75 and 80 pounds. Limb dampeners are noticeably absent on the AX-2, as Hoyt successfully enhanced the overall design to reduce vibration and shot noise without them.

At The Range

The Alpha AX-2 32 produced excellent speeds in line with advertised specs. The grip is comfortable and holds hand position with its rubber material and flat back. The draw cycle, while necessarily stout at the onset to achieve the advertised speeds, is very consistent throughout, with an easy drop into a solid back wall that allows you to relax at full draw and focus on aiming. This bow works with you to steady on the bull’s-eye and has an easy after-shot follow-through. There is little in the way of shock, vibration or noise at the shot. The stealth and performance of the Alpha AX-2 32 will undoubtedly prove deadly in the field.
