Few items have revolutionized bowhunting like the trail camera . Whether you're scouting your own private property, checking out public land in the area or looking into a quality outfitter, chances are trail cameras play a huge role in the way you hunt.
That trend continues to grow, as a number of key manufacturers revealed their newest line of products at the 2014 ATA Show in Nashville, Tenn. Stealth Cam was there for the launch of its newest line of trail cameras, and Wildgame Innovations brought along the star power of the Lakoskys to help showcase its new products. Check out all the latest, greatest trail cameras on the market for 2014.
It took 18 years to draw an elk tag for Unit 201, but the reward was a fantastic hunting experience with my dad and this fine bull.
This is a long-range image of the monster bull, one of the biggest Dad and I had ever seen.
My dad, Andy, held out, passing up some really good bulls, and finally tagged out with this great bull with just two days to go.
Game-Changing Maps Have you ever looked down at your map and not known exactly where you were? GPS technology has solved that problem, but if there is no fence marking property boundaries, it can still be difficult to tell which side of the line you are actually on. A deviation of just a few feet can result in a fine, or even worse. It is something you have to pay close attention to when hunting on your own, especially when traveling to unfamiliar areas.
On this hunt, I used a new product from Hunting GPS Maps that I believe changes the game — color-coded landownership maps that show property boundaries. Every parcel of land is color-coded to easily identify a change in ownership. Using these maps is like taking the same BLM or Forest Service maps you've been using and inserting them into your GPS, except that now you have a dot that shows your exact position.
Hunting GPS Maps are available for download, or on GPS-ready, micro-SD cards that are available through your favorite retailer. If you're a do-it-yourselfer like me, these maps will change the way you hunt.
