The legendary Fred Bear is the continuing inspiration behind a company that has seen noteworthy gains over the past several years. They captured a "look" that brought them instant brand recognition. The company, of course, is Bear Archery Products. However, looks, are not enough. Once you have the attention of your audience you better have something to show them. Bear Archery met that challenge head on with increased engineering and development support. Important to the Bear success story is their constant focus on improving the performance to value level of every rig they create. Leading the way for Bear Archery in 2008 is the Truth 2, a bow the company describes as "Total system advancement." Bear took their Truth from 2007 and redesigned it from the ground up. The Truth 2 is loaded with features including Dual Arc String Suppressors, Compression Molded Flare Quad limbs, Bear logo overmold grip, a straighter, more stable riser and a Perimeter-Weighted Modular Single Cam.

Basics
Stability in a bow is the cornerstone of consistency and accuracy. When designing the Truth 2, Bear engineers worked toward a straighter, less reflexed, riser. Where many bows have a reflex geometry between two and four inches the Truth 2 riser is reflexed only one-inch. For the archer this equates to a bow that works for you (aims well).

This design change provided the building block for further developments. Highlighted among those advancements are the Compression Molded Flare Quad limbs. Through computer simulation techniques Bear is able to perform finite element analysis, which simply means they can flex the limbs in a computer model to determine stress points. This allows the fiberglass limbs to be shaped in the model to achieve uniform stress distribution before a single unit is actually produced. Rigorous testing, of course, follows this process to validate computer data. Evenly spreading the stress over the entire limb increases efficiency and allows the limbs to bend farther. A comfortable seven-inch brace height and overall compact profile are achieved as the relatively short limbs are set to an angle that results in a beyond-parallel position at full draw.

There is no question that archery hunter's value both speed and a smooth draw cycle. The trick for manufacturers is to combine them in one eccentric system. To that end Bear Archery equipped the Truth 2 with their Perimeter-Weighted Modular Single Cam. Designed with a large diameter and riding on sealed stainless steel ball bearings this cam system is advertised to generate IBO speeds ranging from 314 to 318 feet per second. Also featured is an asymmetric cable groove that works with the natural tensions inherent to the system and allows the cable to be easily pulled and laid back into the groove. Modules provide draw lengths from 24 to 30 inches with one half-inch adjustment posts located on the cam. A draw stop creates a solid back wall.

Bear Archery outfits the Truth 2 with several weapons for the fight against noise and vibration. Most noticeable is their new Dual Arc String Suppression system that includes two riser mounted arms that sweep back to meet the string with two crab claw shaped dampers made of a proprietary rubber material. Axle-mounted dampeners are positioned on the limb tips for additional vibration absorption.
