Locked-Down Design

As archers seek faster arrow speeds with bows easily breaking the 300 fps mark, it seems there has been a trend of putting aside large cut-on-contact broadheads for super compact mini heads that are almost as short as they are wide. Minimal blade surface results in less wind planing on these mini-heads, which when shot at longer distances, hold tighter groups shot after shot.

Slick Trick jumped into the archery industry in 2000 at the AMO show with an industry leading "super-short" broadhead that helped pioneer the "mini-head" craze. The highly durable 100-percent stainless steel, four-bladed broadhead uses the patented Alcatraz Bladelock design to secure four .035-inch stainless steel blades within the solid one-piece steel Rhinoferrule.

The new "Slick Trick" comes in three different grain weights; 85, 100 and 125 grains with an option of magnum blades on the 100- and 125-grain models, which increases the cutting diameter from one-inch to 11⁄8 inches. To lighten the weight, the 85 grained Slick Trick owns lighter .030-inch thick blades for a one-inch cutting diameter while the 100 and 125-grain models include beefier .035-inch thick blades cutting an impressive one-inch cutting diameter.

As mentioned previously, the 100- and 125-grain Slick Tricks are also offered with Magnum Blades, slicing a 11⁄8-inch cutting diameter. Blades are held securely in place with a stainless steel washer, which also protects the arrow shaft and insert on bone penetrating hits. The Slick Trick is a great head with honest field point flight characteristics. I hunt out west so I'm always looking for a broadhead that flies true out to at least 50 yards. The Slick Trick fits the bill, and in just 15 minutes, I was smacking bull's-eyes from long distance; perfect for western hunting scenarios.
