Hoyt continues its journey into the world of carbon riser bows with the all-new Carbon Element. With its extremely high strength-to-weight ratio, carbon cannot be ignored as a material that can deliver the qualities bowhunters desire. Hoyt has found a way to take its Carbon Technology to the next level with the Carbon Element -- it is a clear engineering win for the Hoyt team.
The Carbon Element features Hoyt's O-Tech Technology tubular TEC riser, Fuse custom string & cables, Pro Fit Grip, XTS PRO ARC limbs, Fuel Cam & .5, Pro-Lock Limb Pockets and a full compliment of noise and vibration reducing accessories.

Big-Time Strength, Lightweight Package
Hoyt brings back its ultra-strong carbon TEC riser to serve as the cornerstone of the Carbon Element's structure. Proprietary O-Tech Technology is used to create, shape, twist and form the hollow carbon tubes into the proven TEC riser design. While some aspects of the TEC platform are easily recognizable, such as the rear-facing strut, the flowing carbon tubes give the new rig a distinct look. Hoyt's popular TEC design long ago earned a reputation for strength, and now that it has been coupled with the hollow carbon tube construction, strength and durability have been taken to new levels at a mass weight of only 3.6 pounds.
The physical properties of carbon do not allow for direct attachment of most accessories. Hoyt has overcome this obstacle by attaching fixtures and plates through a clamping function. For instance, instead of mounting your sight directly to the riser, you will mount it to drilled and tapped holes in a plate that is clamped onto the riser. The stabilizer-mounting fixture can be clamped on either side of the riser, allowing the bow's balance point to be fine-tuned.

Hoyt has upgraded the cable containment system on the Carbon Element with the In-Line Roller Guard. It has a machined aluminum frame, precision rollers and a sealed bearing. The in-line positioning of the rollers, and in turn the cables, reduces overall torque on the system for increased accuracy and consistency.
Top Fuel
The Carbon Element is outfitted with Hoyt's new Fuel Cam & ½ system, which is a hybrid cam. Both cams ride on stainless steel axles and sealed bearings to decrease friction and increase efficiency. The Carbon Element has a draw-length range from 24€‰½-30 inches, in half-inch increments. Adjustments are modular. System letoff is advertised at approximately 75 percent and speed is listed at 323 fps IBO. When shop talk turns to smooth draw cycles, Hoyt is generally right near the top of the list for many bowhunters.
High-Tech Limbs
Carbon Element XTS PRO ARC limbs are designed for high energy storage and positioned to reduce vibration and noise. Limbs are made with a 5-Layer lamination process and pressed into their final form. The four individual pieces that make up the split limb sets are matched through deflection value measurements, guaranteeing consistency for each bow. The use of spaced split limbs eliminates problem areas common in the traditional solid limb and increases the overall effective width, which adds stability.
Limb durability is a top priority for Hoyt, as demonstrated by its in-house testing -- limb designs are made to withstand 1,000 dry fires at 80 pounds with a 30-inch draw length. Limbs are available in 40-, 50-, 60-, 65-, 70- and 80-pound peak draw weight options, each with 10 pounds of downward adjustability.
Impressions
Hoyt's 2011 Carbon Element is a fun bow to shoot, which to me is more important than many other factors that go into purchasing a bow. The draw is smooth, shock and vibration levels are minimal, handling is easy thanks to the low mass weight and the balance at full draw is absolutely rock solid.
