Even with the latest bowhunting technology at our fingertips, it's easy to get comfortable with tried-and-true gear and miss out on innovations that can take our archery game to the next level. My first compound bow came equipped with a capture-style rest, and simply out of habit and familiarity, that's what I stuck with for years, even when upgrading my bow.

My first experience with a drop-away rest finally came this spring with the Magne' Drop Arrow Rest, and I'm happy I gave it a whirl. Utilizing a simple design that eliminates the need for a conventional spring, the Magne' Drop operates via powerful, rare earth magnets that shorten dwell time and eliminate bounceback with a continuous pull that prevents the launcher from moving back toward the shelf after release.
In testing, Buck Rub Outfitters — creator of the Magne' Drop — found the magnetic pull is faster than the cable travel of compound bows. The secure capture system maintains a firm grip on arrows with minimal rattling or movement, releases at full draw and quickly recaptures arrows if you need to let down. And since there is no top containment bar, the Magne' Drop also eliminates troublesome vane contact issues.

I shot four-fletch arrows using the Magne' Drop, and the rest spit them out fast, without any problems. CNC-machined in the United States, the aluminum rest is tough and designed to handle harsh elements. I got most of my practice with the Magne' Drop during spring showers, and the wet weather didn't compromise the rest's performance.
The Magne' Drop also features a versatile, ambidextrous design that is easy to set up for both right- and left-handed shooters. Users can link the activation cable to the bow's downward cable, upward cable or a limb, but the rest is most accurate and forgiving when cable driven.
Micro-adjustable elevation provides easy thumb-screw tuning without the need for moving nock points or D-loops. I was able to get the rest set up and start flinging arrows in less than 30 minutes. If you've been thinking about making the switch from a static, capture-style rest to a drop-away, the Magne' Drop is certainly worth a look. — Emily Kantner
