Hoochie's Little Sister

Is the action hotter on the other side? The trick to calling a bull elk within bow range is often to convince him it must be. Many successful elk hunters do this by creating excitement with their calling, and one of the best ways to create excitement is by mimicking the sounds of multiple elk. If you've ever experienced the privilege of listening to an elk herd call back and forth to one another at close range, you know the sounds of different cows and calves are clearly distinguishable.

In the past, my preferred method for mimicking the sounds of multiple elk was to use a diaphragm mouth call in conjunction with an open-reed or bite-and-blow type call. For some hunters, mouth calls can be difficult to master. That's why in 2003, Primos introduced the Hoochie Mama push-plunger style cow call. With the Hoochie Mama, anyone can make realistic cow calls with a simple push of a thumb. The Hoochie Mama has been one of the most successful and popular cow calls with bowhunters.

After introducing the Hoochie Mama, the only problem left to solve was how to create the excitement of multiple elk while only using plunger style calls. Enter Hoochie Mama's little sister -- the Baby Hoochie. The Baby Hoochie is designed to imitate the higher pitched sound of a calf elk.

When used together with the Hoochie Mama, mimicking the sounds of multiple elk calling back and forth is now easier than ever. The push-plunger design makes it as easy to use as the original. Add to the Hoochie duo a diaphragm mouth call, and a single caller can learn to sound like a whole herd of elk by operating all three calls at one time.

The ability to create that kind of excitement with your calls can be a lethal weapon, so I believe you'll find the Baby Hoochie a valuable addition to your elk-hunting arsenal.
