Tree-stand hunters usually fall in one of two camps. On one side, you have hunters who want to cut the smallest shooting lanes possible for the best possible concealment. I, on the other hand, am willing to risk getting busted, because I hate seeing a buck and not being able to get a shot. My grandfather, whose passion was fishing, always told me, "If two-pound test is good, four-pound is better." He didn't mind missing a bite, but if he hooked a fish, you could bet he was going to land it. As a result, I carry a saw with me to trim branches and make sure that if I see it, I can shoot it.

The saw in my pack serves double duty when I need to cut through bone to field-dress game. The blade is rough for wood but works on bone as well.
