The number of bowhunters recording their own hunts has exploded in recent years thanks to ever-improving digital camera technology and the advent of easy-to-use online video sharing sites such as YouTube. I suspect many hunters who still don't carry a camera afield are scared away by the cost and/or perceived difficulty of operating it while at the same time preparing to make an accurate shot out of a treestand or ground blind. The new ReAction Cam from Moultrie addresses both those concerns by packing a quality, high-definition video camera into an inexpensive package that is extremely easy to operate. The ReAction Cam fits in the palm of your hand and weighs a mere 4.3 ounces with two AA batteries installed; yet it is capable of recording video at resolution up to 720p and still images up to 5MP.
Everything is recorded onto an SD card (up to 16 GB, not included) for easy transfer to your computer. You can also view videos and photos on your television using the TV out port (cable not included). The weather-resistant ReAction Cam is finished in Realtree APG camo and has a 1.5-inch, color LCD screen that allows you to see what you are recording and review footage. Anti-shake technology helps steady your footage, time/date stamping helps keep it organized and auto stop (adjustable from five to 30 minutes) prevents you from accidentally draining your batteries.
Although a built-in microphone captures sound for your videos, the camera operates silently with only a small light indicating recording. The ReAction Cam comes with a clip mount that slides onto the bill of a ball cap and a swivel mount that can be attached to your treestand, bow riser, etc. A fixed, wide-angle lens with no optical zoom (8x digital zoom is available) and relatively poor low-light performance (due to the small lens size) are significant drawbacks.
