The Next Generation of Ozone Scent Control

New Ozonics HR600 maximizes in-the-field concealment.

The Next Generation of Ozone Scent Control
Ozonics’ new HR600 unit can produce 20 percent more ozone than previous models and incorporates a host of other hunter-friendly features.

Over the past 17 years, Ozonics has revolutionized the way bowhunters control their scent in the field, and the company’s all-new HR600 ($499.99) represents a giant leap forward in technology and features that maximize effectiveness in the field.

Reimagined from the ground up, the HR600 isn’t just the latest in-the-field ozone generator in the Ozonics line; rather, it is an advanced new platform capable of producing 20 percent more ozone than previous versions thanks to a new coil design, fan and airflow system. The end result is enhanced odor-elimination capabilities to help you remain hidden from the noses of nearby game animals, regardless of whether you are in a tree, on the ground or stalking your prey.

The HR600 also features a new, overhead air intake that — along with the new, more durable fan — ensures both reliability and whisper quiet operation. Another major improvement is the ability of users to replace the HR600’s ozone coil themselves. Previously, damaged units would have to be returned to the company for repairs, but now, hunters can simply pack a backup coil to ensure their Ozonics unit will keep them covered even if a problem occurs.

Another highlight of the HR600 is a new battery design that offers significantly extended life of up to 13 hours in standard mode. This is the longest-running battery Ozonics has ever offered, and the company also incorporated a charging port in the HR600 unit to make recharging between hunts more convenient.

The HR600 can be controlled by buttons on the unit, an optional remote or the free smartphone app.

Other notable features on the HR600 include a pair of red LED work lights that the company reintroduced at the request of its customers. These lights, also available several of the company’s earlier models, give hunters some much-needed light to set up and/or pack up in the dark without spooking game.

The HR600 offers five operating modes. Three of them — Standard, Boost and Hyperboost — are designed to be used for in-the-field concealment in a variety of applications. The remaining two modes — Locker and DriWash — are designed to be used for eliminating odors from clothing and hunting gear in enclosed spaces. The unit can be controlled via the onboard buttons, the optional Ozonics remote or the free Ozonics smartphone app. One of the nice features about the app is that it provides an estimate of remaining battery life in hours and minutes, along with current weather information for your location.

The Science Behind Ozone

Ozone, a molecule consisting of three oxygen atoms, is a powerful oxidizer and disinfectant used in a variety of industrial applications. For example, buildings damaged in floods and fires are often filled with high concentrations of ozone to eliminate residual odors before occupants return. Ozone is also used routinely used by athletes to remove unwanted odors from uniforms, footwear and other gear, while teams use it to disinfect and deodorize locker rooms.

By positioning an Ozonics unit over your head in a treestand and pointing the unit downwind, the ozone molecules it produces can destroy the odor molecules coming off your body and help keep you hidden the from the noses of approaching game animals.

But Ozonics is the first and only company offering portable ozone-generation devices for in-the-field use by hunters, helping them eliminate human odor and remain hidden from the powerful noses of big-game animals. The company started a scent-control revolution when it introduced its first in-the-field unit in 2007, and today Ozonics is trusted by countless hunters around the world.

Ozonics units create ozone by using a fan to pass air over a charged electrical coil that breaks regular oxygen molecules apart and allows them to reconstitute as ozone. The amount of ozone produced can be regulated by the fan speed and the level of the electrical charge in the coil. By placing an Ozonics unit above your head in a stand or saddle, or setting it up by an open window in your ground blind, ozone is able to bond to your odor molecules, making them undetectable to animals. The unit is designed to be set above your head and pointed downwind, so that ozone comes in contact with your odors as the ozone falls through the air column.

Over the years, Ozonics has expanded on this basic concept by offering modes such as Boost and Hyper Boost to provide additional ozone during close encounters with game, the creation of the Kinetic Pack to use in tandem with an Ozonics unit during spot-and-stalk hunts and the Ozonics O.N.E. Gear Locker and DriWash Bag for deodorizing your clothing and other gear in between hunts.
