One and Done Sighting with UNO App

uno_appSetting the pins on a new sight isn't my favorite archery chore. It's time consuming, and even after multiple range sessions it is hard to know whether my pins are set perfectly, because there's just no way to take my shooting flaws out of the equation.

But thanks to the new UNO smartphone app from Full Flight Technology, I can calibrate new sights in minutes with more precision than I could ever achieve on my own.

The UNO app only requires me to set my top pin and then does the rest of the work. Although most bowhunters set the top pin at 20 yards, you can choose any range you like and also tell the app what ranges you would like your other pins set for.

After that, all you have to do is enter your arrow speed (you'll need a chronograph for that), indicate whether you are using vanes or feathers and enter two simple bow measurements — the distance from your peep sight to your arrow at full draw and the distance from your peep sight to your sight pins at full draw. Then the app displays your pin gaps on screen; just hold your phone up to your sight and adjust the pins until they line up.

UNO may sound far fetched, but it's based on rock-solid mathematic principles. App creator Bob Donahoe says UNO uses the data you provide to precisely calculate the launch angle required for your arrow to hit the bull's-eye at your chosen distances.

And the app also calculates exactly where the corresponding pin must be to achieve that launch angle. "It's called UNO because you only need one pin set," Donahoe said. "It helps you get your pins set so you can spend the time on your form."

I tested UNO using my Hoyt Carbon Spyder and was blown away by how well it worked. Without taking a single shot past 20 yards, the bow was dead-on out to 60! With results like that, I will use UNO to calibrate all my sights in preparation for fall hunts.
