Columbus Day, Oct. 10, was a company holiday, which meant I had the day off. So, I decided to make good use of my time by climbing into a tree and attempting to put some venison in the freezer. Fate smiled upon me, and around 8:30 a.m., this doe showed up and offered me a 35-yard broadside shot. I was actually watching two red foxes that had just scampered past my stand when this doe came along.
Anyway, I ended up having a full day of work, and it was well into the evening by the time I had gotten this doe home, skinned, quartered and de-boned. I ended up grinding most of the meat in burger the following evening and put more than 30 pounds of boneless venison in the freezer by the time it was all said and done. I love taking a doe early in the archery season. Not only is a great way to warm up for those pressure-packed shots on big bucks, but it also gives you a great head start on stocking the freezer for winter.
This was also the first animal I took with my new PSE Bow Madness XS. As you can see in the photos, I got this bow with Skulz Camo, and I think it's a neat little bow. Shoots smooth, is highly maneuverable and just looks sick with the Skulz Camo and all black accessories.
