I read a story once about a hunter who cut himself badly while field-dressing a moose in the backcountry. He had a close call with death and survived only because his partner was able to get help. The scenario set me thinking, and my research led me to Z-Medica and its QuickClot, an excellent immediate-action tool for just such emergencies. QuickClot, available in granulated or sponge-based forms, is designed specifically to stop heavy bleeding from open wounds. It works by rapidly removing water molecules from blood, thus speeding up the clotting process. Military and law enforcement agencies rely on this product and report that it has saved many personnel. Follow-ing extensive tests and medical reviews, QuickClot is approved by the FDA. QuickClot products are available from $28-$35 at approved retailers
